Neither of them felt any pressure to get married. After six years Norman was promoted and had to transfer to another part of the country. Fearing that their age difference would cause their relationship to fade, Gail opted to stay in Pineville and they drifted apart. Many years later when their paths crossed again Gail realized that she was still in love with the man that she had considered her soul mate. However, Norman was now married with two kids and based in Seattle.
