When Samantha is abruptly awoken from her cryogenic sleep, she finds herself with no memories about her life but her name and an order by her father to find the one thousand women who are in cryogenic sleep just like her. The order seems confusing until she finds a city populated by only men and boys, and she discovers that all women in the world have died from a mysterious virus. She meets a teenage boy named Tommy, who helps her learn about this strange, new city and helps her discover clues to the mysterious resting place of the sleeping women. But she soon discovers that there are some in the city who do not want the women to wake up and will do anything to stop her and anyone who knows about the sleeping women.
