Brown Round Bread Sandwich is an interactive story/workbook about Ishaq, who moves to a new state with his mother and away from the rest of his family. His moms dream is to open her own international store because she is fond of various cultures. But when she packs a wheat pita bread sandwich for his lunch on his first day at Bayside Elementary School, he becomes the target of a class bully. Ishaq quickly learns that he must have a part in making his experiences better. This story was written to provide lots of teachable moments and talking points for teachers, counselors, coaches, parents, and students. It addresses such topics as the extended family, bullying, female entrepreneurship, cultural diversity, and self-confidence. Though it is never mentioned as such, it is a look into the life of a boy being raised in a single-parent family. The workbook component of Brown Round Bread Sandwich contains exercises to boost vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing skills, spelling, and more.
