An eight-month-old brumby is relocated from a state forest near Tin Can Bay in South East Queensland to a property with other brumbies, and from there, she is adopted by a family with two children. When she arrives at her new home, she is given the name Kamarla and has some interesting interactions with the animals that live on the property, including Roy, the cattle dog, and Gertie, the thoroughbred. At first she is frightened, especially of the children, but as time goes on, Kamarla adjusts to her new home and the animals and humans, with whom she shares her new life.
