The Fire Department is a very important part of any city because on a day to day basis all types of emergencies develop. In the BURNING DIVIDE the fire and emergency calls were expected but the reality of division was because of race was very prevalent as well so there were two forms of danger to deal with and both had the potential of injury or death. As a black fire fighter you had to be multi-talented to negotiate these obstacles effectively and that makes you confident and aware of all possibilities to do this job and keep a positive mental attitude at all times because many people were watching for all types of reasons.
