A Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) contractor, Jon London was completing an assignment in Nicaragua when he encountered a dark cloud of swarming insects along the San Juan river. That’s when he felt a sharp sting on his neck. A few steps later he felt disoriented and unbalanced. He became dizzy and short of breath; he staggered, lost his balance and fell into the swift river separating Nicaragua and Costa Rica. Falling from the high riverbank was like a dream: actual time was suspended. Jon realized he was about to die. Perhaps, he though, time had been paused so he could know how his life ended. It never occurred to him he would die in this place.
