Rene Descartes’ work on philosophy is considered to be a cornerstone in the Western view of life. His dictum “I think therefore I exist” is an arrival at a certain evolution of the philosophical process. His work combined with later philosophers like Spinoza, Leibniz gave color to the logical derivations and thus a synthesis of the rational and empirical viewpoints. Whilst in the east, there was much work done in the field of philosophy and documented in the Vedic texts, organized as Vedanta (Upanishads). This small text is an attempt to present a comparative view on both the diverse philosophies, pointing out its similarities and its variations. This book would introduce the reader to both the worlds of philosophy, and provide a pivot to direct the interest into further exploration.
