A collection of monologues and scenes from contemporary plays written by female and trans authors. The Kilroys’ objective is to end the underrepresentation of female and trans playwrights in American Theaterrete. The group advocates for more visibility of underrepresented playwrights. The List is meant to be used as a tool for producers who are committed to ending the systemic underrepresentation of female and trans playwrights in the American theater. The plays on the list are nominated by influential new play leaders—Artistic Directors, Literary Managers, Professors, Producers, Directors, and Dramaturgs —with the most recommended plays earning a place on the list. Founded in 2013, The Kilroys was created by a group of playwrights and producers in LA. The namesake “The Kilroys” originated from the World War II graffiti tag “Kilroy Was Here” The tagline used by The Kilroys is “ We Make Trouble and Plays.”
