We are living through what is arguably the most challenging time for the health care industry. Glaring gaps and inequities in health persist both within and between countries, underscoring our collective failure to share the dramatic health advances of the last century equitably. At the same time, health care is also changing dramatically and our concepts of medicine and health will be fundamentally redefined by the disruptive influences of exponentially growing technologies and converging fields within health and healthcare, new models for care delivery, the rise of consumerism and a quest to maximize value for patients, providers, payers and the system as a whole. yet the reality is that healthcare’s leadership has not kept pace with these challenges, and the results thereof are pretty stark for all to see. The purpose of this book is to provide healthcare leaders with a set of new skills and competencies that are critical if they and their organizations are to survive, let alone succeed in the New Health Economy.We’ll explore the five mainstays of leadership for the new health economy.
