Fishing is a big business in Liberia. It is a friend to Liberia because it provides food for the Liberian people and jobs for many workers. Men and women make a living by fishing in the creeks, lakes, rivers, and the Atlantic Ocean. Deep-sea fishing is done from big ships. Nippehs Fishing Surprise is about Nippeh, age eight; his sister, Tanneh, age ten; and cousin, Jappah, age eleven. They want to fish in the creek at the foot of one of the big hills on the family farm in Gbaota, Bong County, Liberia. The children have watched each day as women from the town come to fish. Nippeh wants to catch a fish, but he has not fished before. He tries and tries so that he can surprise the family, especially Mother, with a big fish. E. A. W. New Orleans, Louisiana January 11, 2001
